Where a picked-up animal is held
Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter — temporarily at the former Copper Cliff Fire Hall, 35 Godfrey Drive, Copper Cliff, 705-694-7387

The city runs its own animal shelter and its own by-law enforcement. The Ontario SPCA Greater Sudbury Animal Centre is a separate organisation on the Collège Boréal campus — its own FAQ asks finders to contact municipal animal control first, and says it accepts strays only from areas without municipal coverage.

Dogs and cats are not always the same answer. The same path for both. The City’s shelter takes in "dogs and cats found injured, abandoned or roaming at large", and one number covers reporting injured or potentially dangerous cats and dogs roaming at large.

Out of hours. Call 311 and press 6 to reach the City’s call-answer service. By-law Compliance and Enforcement Officers work seven days a week and evenings.

The city shelter is at a temporary address: it moved to 35 Godfrey Drive in Copper Cliff on 31 July 2026 while a permanent shelter is built. Phone before you travel.

Checked against the City of Greater Sudbury’s own animal shelter page on 4 October 2026 — read it yourself. Services and contracts change — confirm before you travel.
