Where a picked-up animal is held
Pickering Animal Shelter, 1688 Highway 7, Brougham, 905-683-7575

The city runs its own animal services and its own shelter at Brougham, so a stray found in Pickering is held by the City rather than at the regional animal centre.

Dogs and cats are not always the same answer. Explicit and worth knowing: "We only pick up stray cats that are sick or injured however, if a resident contains a cat, they may bring it directly to the shelter." For dogs the City goes the other way — staff will collect a confined stray dog 24 hours a day.

Out of hours. Confined stray dogs are collected 24 hours a day. A photo of an impounded animal is posted to the City’s found-pets page within 24 hours.

An impound fee is charged for any animal picked up and brought to the shelter, and the shelter does not accept cash.
