Lost pet help in Chatham-Kent, Ontario

Who to call first in Chatham-Kent

Pickup and bylaw enforcement
Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), under contract with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, 226-996-9969
Where a picked-up animal is held
PAWR’s shelters — Chatham at 405 Park Avenue, and Wallaceburg, 226-996-9969

PAWR is a rescue that holds the municipality’s animal control contract, and it publishes the scope of that contract itself. No SPCA is involved.

Dogs and cats are not always the same answer. The contract has an explicit cats carve-out: PAWR states its "contract with the municipality does not include picking up stray cats", and offers trap rentals with a deposit instead. A found cat must be brought to the Chatham location at 405 Park Avenue; a found dog can go to either shelter or PAWR will collect. The Chatham-Kent by-law matches — its at-large rule covers "dogs or other animals, other than cats".

Out of hours. An after-hours contact is published for a dog at large or a dog bite. Strays are held three days, not counting the day they arrive.

Checked against PAWR’s own stray-and-feral-cats page, which states the limits of its municipal contract on 4 October 2026 — read it yourself. Services and contracts change — confirm before you travel.
