One contractor covers three municipalities — the City of Victoria, Oak Bay and Esquimalt — and the Capital Regional District’s own lost-animals page sends residents of those three here rather than to the CRD shelter. Everywhere else in the region goes to the CRD Animal Shelter instead.

Dogs and cats are not always the same answer. Both cats and dogs: this service is the named responder for cats and dogs found anywhere in all three municipalities.

Out of hours. After hours, the duty officer’s pager number is given on the answering-machine message, and is for a threat to public safety or a contained sick or injured animal. Officers do not investigate nuisance matters such as stray cats after hours.

Complaints are only taken by phone or in person at the pound — not by email or social media.

Checked against the Capital Regional District’s own lost-animals page and Victoria Animal Control Services’ own site on 4 October 2026 — read it yourself. Services and contracts change — confirm before you travel.

Two organisations in this directory name Victoria in the area they cover: BC SPCA Victoria and Victoria Animal Control Services.

Between them they are shelters and humane societies and municipal animal services.

Further down the page, four organisations cover British Columbia as a whole and five work Canada-wide.

Opening hours, intake practices and how each organisation wants to hear from you are set by that organisation, not by this directory — check its own page or call before you travel.
