What to do here

In Kamloops the answer depends on the species, and the city states it plainly.

Cats are turned over to the BC SPCA immediately during its operating hours, and the City of Kamloops’ own page tells anyone missing a cat to enquire at this facility. For a cat, this is the right call.

Dogs are held by City of Kamloops Community Services, on a four-day mandatory stray hold, then for up to a further week while the city posts them, before going to a rescue facility. For a missing dog, call Community Services on 250-828-3409.

This centre also handles surrenders, adoptions and cruelty work. The BC SPCA runs the BC Pet Registry — worth checking your record is current.

One organisation is never the whole search

A pet is found by whoever happens to be nearby, so the shelter, the city, the registry and the local search groups each hold a different piece. Work the list rather than one entry on it.
