What to do here
This is the BC SPCA centre for Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island, handling surrenders, adoptions and cruelty work. It is not the city’s animal control service.
For a lost or found dog in Nanaimo, the City of Nanaimo publishes one number: Nanaimo Animal Control Services on 250-616-0233, the city’s contracted service, which also covers after-hours emergencies through a recorded message. Outside the city, animal control in the Regional District of Nanaimo is a different service on 1-888-754-1397.
The city does not publish a cat service, so for a missing cat ask here and do not assume the city is holding it. Check your microchip record with the BC Pet Registry at the same time.

One organisation is never the whole search
A pet is found by whoever happens to be nearby, so the shelter, the city, the registry and the local search groups each hold a different piece. Work the list rather than one entry on it.
