Surrey Animal Resource Centre

Surrey's municipal animal shelter, owned and operated by the City — the place a pet found anywhere in Surrey is supposed to be taken, and the place to claim one the City has picked up.

What to do here

Call the shelter on 604-574-6622 and describe your pet, then work through the City's stray albums yourself — it publishes separate albums for stray dogs, stray cats, small animals and livestock, plus a list of animals brought in deceased in the last 30 days. If a stray needs collecting rather than reporting, the City asks you to call the Bylaw Call Centre on 604-591-4370 instead.

Two things worth knowing before you phone. The City states that lost pets brought here are held for four calendar days, after which the animal is evaluated for an appropriate outcome — so the first four days are the ones that count. And the City's own page says that while animals found in Surrey should be brought to this shelter, your pet could still have been taken to another local shelter, so this is the first call rather than the only one.

Claiming an impounded pet is done by appointment: call to arrange a time, and expect an impound fee, a per-day boarding fee, medical treatment fees for dogs and cats, and a dog licence fee if the dog was not licensed. The City publishes those fees, and an unlicensed dog costs several times what a licensed one does.

Compiled from the City of Surrey's own Surrey Animal Resource Centre pages (about the shelter, lost and found pets) re-fetched 4 October 2026. Fees and hold periods are set by City bylaw and change; confirm by phone. Last checked 4 October 2026. Details change without notice — confirm anything you are about to rely on.

One organisation is never the whole search

A pet is found by whoever happens to be nearby, so the shelter, the city, the registry and the local search groups each hold a different piece. Work the list rather than one entry on it.
