What to do here

The Capital Regional District directs residents of the City of Victoria, Oak Bay and Esquimalt here rather than to its own shelter. This is a contracted animal control service, and its pound and adoption centre is at 564 David Street in Victoria.

It is the named responder for both cats and dogs found anywhere in those three municipalities. Complaints are taken by phone or in person at the pound only — not by email or social media.

After hours, the duty officer’s pager number is given on the answering-machine message; it is for a threat to public safety or a contained sick or injured animal, and officers do not investigate nuisance matters such as stray cats after hours.

If you are unsure which side of a boundary your pet went missing on, call this number and the CRD shelter on 250-658-5745 both.

Compiled from the Capital Regional District's own lost-animals page, which publishes this number for these three municipalities, 24 August 2026. Last checked 24 August 2026. Details change without notice — confirm anything you are about to rely on.

One organisation is never the whole search

A pet is found by whoever happens to be nearby, so the shelter, the city, the registry and the local search groups each hold a different piece. Work the list rather than one entry on it.
